THE PROLOGUE
To understand VBX, you need to know about the predecessor ‘Vrijbuiters’. Responsible for hosting playful parties all over Amsterdam. Like the infamous one on the NDSM Ferry.

BIRTH OF THE BRAND: VBX

Vrijbuiters 2.0 is launched – better known as VBX. Co-founder Menno is taking care of the artwork.

V = Vrij
B = Buiters
X = The swords of Vrijbuiters

FIRST STEPS

Menno designs the new (and current) logo and is determined to add some colour to the minimal world.
2013 – 2014

DISCOVERY

A series of parties follows and, together with the right people, VBX is gaining traction for their sound in Amsterdam. The now defunct warehouse space Cruquiusgilde forms the backdrop for some legendary afterhours.

THE FIRST RELATIONSHIP

The first ever festival, in collaboration with Paradigm Groningen, is a fact. It goes by the name of “Planet Paradigm: A One Day Festival Trip”. This collaboration entails a new visual language as well.

COMING OF AGE

A growing demand means stepping up the game. This leads to 5 different events during ADE’19 and obviously to more artwork requests for Menno. However, the co-founder is also welcoming his daughter into the world.

INTO THE FUTURE

Eternally grateful for the foundation he build and the legacy Menno leaves behind, it’s time for a move. Utrecht based collective DEFRAME adds an extra dimension to the visual status quo.

KEEP AN EYE OUT

The results of the new artwork will be revealed soon and later this year the new graphic identity of VBX will be front and center of this website as well.
